Play Books update available on Android

The folks at Google have recently updated their Play Books application on the Android OS. The update brings many new features such as Text Highlighting, Notes taking, Built-in Dictionary support, Translation, Sliding page-turn animation, etc. Many users have already updated to the latest version, so those who haven't should really give it a go.

Asha 308 & 309 announced by Nokia

Nokia have announced the Asha 308 and the Asha 309. Both of them are budget touchscreen phones for users who don't want to spend too much on a phone. The specs include a 3.0" screen, 2MP camera, FM radio and a microSD card slot with support upto 32GB storage cards. The difference between the two phones is that the Asha 308 is a dual-SIM phone whereas the Asha 309 is a single SIM phone with Wi-Fi connectivity. Both phones are expected to ship sometime in Q4 of 2012 so we might see them soon.

Samsung's list of Jelly Bean ready devices

After recently updating the Samsung Galaxy S III to the latest Android version, a.k.a. Jelly Bean, Samsung have issued a full list of devices which will also have a taste of this update. The list of devices goes as:

The release dates for the devices in this list haven't been mentioned as of yet but the updates might start soon.

Martian Pink Galaxy S3 available in South Korea

Most of you might remember the Pink version of Samsung Galaxy S II was launched earlier when it was the latest flagship phone. This phone was meant to target the female customers to bring them closer to the smartphone market. Keeping in line with this trend, Samsung have now released the Martian Pink version of the current flagship, the Galaxy S III, in South Korea. It is available only in 32GB version. The International market might also get this phone soon but no current launch date has been specified.

Pantech Vega R3 available in South Korea

The Pantech Vega R3 is a phone-tablet cross that aims to compete head on with the Samsung Galaxy Note II and the LG Optimus Vu II. By looking at its specs, it seems it will do so without much hassle. The Pantech Vega R3 runs on the latest Snapdragon S4 chipset, which basically means 1.5 GHz Quad-core processor, 2GB RAM and an Adreno 320 GPU. The rest of the specs are:
  • 5.3" Natural IPS Pro LCD with 1280x720 resolution
  • 2,600 mAH battery with talk-time upto 14 hours and 30 minutes
  • A 2 port charger, which allows simultaneous charging of the phone and a spare battery
  • 13MP back camera
  • LTE, NFC, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0
  • Android 4.0.4 out of the box with Jelly Bean update to come later
  • Oh yeah, a micro-sd card slot too for extra storage
The Pantech Vega R3 is available through the 3 carriers in South Korea and interested users should check it out as it looks to be a promising device.

Release date for HTC Windows Phone 8X

HTC recently announced their latest Windows Phone 8 flagship at an event last week and now it seems that Amazon UK have already got the phone up for pre-order on their website. The SIM-free version of this phone is available on Amazon UK and the suggested release date is 8th November, 2012. For those who want to check it out, click here.

New UI for Blackberry 10

Recently at a special event, the guys at RIM showed off the latest UI for Blackberry 10 which will make it to the final version of the OS. This UI has some really nice features and aims to bring a new feel by using gestures in its own way. Guys from TheVerge were present at the event and they made a video showing off the new UI of Blackberry 10. You can check it out in the video below.
